Ellie press & the environment
With a background in Zoology & Marine Biology. the environment is extremely important to me. As a small business I am dedicated to finding ways in which my business can limit its impact on the environment:
Betsy was rescued from going to ‘scrap’ and restored. She is powered using a foot treadle and only requires a small amount of oil to keep her parts in good working condition.
I use a variety of different card stocks which I carefully choose to ensure they are FSC accredited and/or made from renewable energy sources. A majority of the work I undertake is printed on 100% cotton made in the UK.
Polymer printing plates are stored for re-use and can be returned for recycling to suppliers that I work closely with.
I re-use old clothes unsuitable for charity donation, to make my own cleaning rags and recycle leftover paper off-cuts.
Where possible most of the suppliers I use are UK based.
I never purchase plastic packaging products. I may from time to time re-use items passed from other suppliers (i.e. bubble wrap), but in general everything I purchase or use is biodegradable.
